Why a tree incentive program?

The goal of the Tree Incentive Program is to increase tree canopy coverage in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, particularly on private land.

Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data indicates that the most effective way to increase tree canopy coverage in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is through planting and maintaining trees on private land. Public land alone does not provide sufficient space to meet the canopy target.

Trees help to cool and shade homes, buildings and streets, reduce electricity costs, and support efforts to address the impacts of climate change.

To support the program, the Council is offering property owners within the City an $80 voucher towards the purchase of a tree (that meets program criteria) for planting on their land.
