The recording of obsolescent structures and built objects, has been an important part of my art practice. This interest is partly due to their perceived aesthetics but also, they have provided opportunities to reference change. In this case I visited two destinations, far from Adelaide, that were once railway towns and are now largely deserted.
I have recorded images of ailing structures and discarded objects found there, on black and white film with a plastic Holga camera.
The resulting prints have been partially coloured by various analogue techniques, using bleach, toner, oil paint, pencil, etc. The more realistic colours in some highlight the past and present, whilst more bizarre ones in others present an imaginary existence, perhaps referencing the future for our fragile planet.
Opening hours:
Mon - Fri 9.30 - 5pm
Sat 10am - 4pm
Please note the adjoining gallery spaces are closed Wednesday afternoons from 1pm.
