Do you know an individual who helps make the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters a fantastic place to live, work or play? Or a community group which has made a big difference to local lives?
Each year, the Council holds the Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards to honour individuals and organisations that have made a voluntary contribution to our community.
Mayor Robert Bria said the Awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to a local community – above and beyond normal working duties.
“Each year the Council recognises the outstanding achievements of community members and organisations that motivate and inspire others through their vision, leadership, talent, humility and spirit of community service,” Mayor Bria said.
“The 2022 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards recognise our City’s unsung heroes and pay tribute to the citizens in our community who have gone above and beyond to help improve the lives of others and make our community an outstanding place to live, work and visit.”
The theme for the 2022 Australia Day Awards is Reflet. Respect. Celebrate.
Nominations are now open for the following Award Categories:
- Young Citizen of the Year - presented to the most outstanding Young Citizen for the local government authority
- Citizen of the Year - presented to the most outstanding citizen for the local government authority
- Community Event of the Year - presented to the person or group who have staged the most outstanding community event during the year
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters 2021 Award recipient was Mr Don Looker, of Royston Park, who has provided exceptional service to his community and country since he was a teenager.
Mr Looker was enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force in June 1942, aged just 19, and was trained as a Wireless Air Gunner. For the past 45 years, Don has been an integral and much loved member of the RSL and various sporting clubs.
The Citizen of the Year Awards are presented by the Australia Day Council of South Australia and administered by local Councils.
