New traffic calming devices in the form of speed cushions will be installed at intervals along Langman Grove, Felixstow between Briar Road and Wicks Avenue.

Project details

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is committed to improving road safety, encouraging sustainable transport and enhancing community well-being.

The Council recognises that traffic speed directly affects the liveability and safety of our streets and neighbourhoods and by better managing the travelling speed of vehicles, we can improve safety and liveability for all road users, without significantly impacting travel times or conditions for motorists.

The Council has worked with traffic engineers and the community to develop a solution for Langman Grove that balances the community concerns and feedback received, constraints of the street environment, Australian Standards, and loss of on-street parking, while safety managing vehicle speeds.

Changes to Langman Grove to improve road safety, includes the installation of nine traffic control devices (speed cushions) along Langman Grove, between Briar Road and Wicks Avenue, along with concrete median islands at select locations.

The installation of these devices will result in the removal of a total of 20 on-street car parks.

The new traffic calming devices will improve road safety along Langman Grove by reducing vehicle speeds and volumes.

Background

Between March 2022 and August 2023, the Council undertook consultations with the community regarding potential traffic management measures along Langman Grove.

The consultation process involved three rounds with approximately 300 letters each round sent to owners and occupiers who live along or near Langman Grove.

As a result of the consultations, multiple iterations of the design were considered. The final design balances the community concerns and feedback received, constraints of the street environment, Australian Standards, and loss of on-street parking, while safety managing vehicle speeds.

Most respondents supported the third design iteration, which includes speed cushions installed along the length of Langman Grove. Minor changes were made to the third design and the final version is now being implemented.

Next steps

Briar Road and Turner Drive traffic management will be assessed after an evaluation of the works along Langman Grove.
