Urban Planning & Environment
Senior Urban Planner

• Full-time, 9 Month Fixed-term Contract

Annual salary of $116,112.49 - $123,285.37 (pro-rata) + Statutory Superannuation

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is an inner eastern metropolitan Council, nestled on the outskirts of the CBD. The area enjoys a reputation as one of Adelaide’s most desirable places to live, work, study and visit. From a planning and development perspective, the city has a rich heritage fabric which is balanced with medium and high-density residential growth. There is high demand for residential infill and commercial development, together with strong demand and vibrancy along some of the City’s premier retail strips.

An exciting opportunity has presented itself for an experienced Senior Urban Planner to join our Development Assessment Unit and contribute towards shaping our vibrant City through high-quality, environmentally sensitive development. The position will be instrumental in helping to achieve the City’s vision by facilitating development outcomes that respect the heritage and natural environment of the City.

The Role
Reporting to either the Manager, Development Assessment or the Manager Urban Planning & Sustainability, the Senior Urban Planner will either have responsibility for the assessment of more complex and diverse Development Applications, as part of the Development Assessment Unit, or will have responsibility for the preparation and review of Code Amendments, as part of the Planning Policy Unit. The delivery of accurate and timely advice to the Manager, internal stakeholders, Council Assessment Panel or State Government, development industry and community will be a key requirement of either role.

About You
To be successful in this position you will be pro-active, outcome driven, emotionally intelligent, take pride in the work you do and possess the following skills and experience:

• A tertiary or post graduate qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or related discipline is highly regarded
• Extensive experience in the assessment of complex Development Applications and/ or in the preparation of Code Amendments
• Extensive knowledge of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 and Regulations
• Eligibility for Corporate Membership of the Planning Institute of Australia / Accreditation as an Accredited Professional
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
• High level of emotional intelligence and ability to deescalate challenging conversations
